Dolph and his "Little Friend"

Dolph is a beast of a man.  His motto is, "There is no problem so big that it can't be fixed with the proper application of violence, or high explosives."  To that end, he's found a gun that fits his motto and personality..."his little friend".

Dolph is another repurposed Heroclix miniature.  He's one of the Punisher incarnations.  I simply love this fig, despite the fact that it is HUGE.  As you can see below, he towers over 25mm scaled figs, even with the added height of a slotta bases.  He'd fit in great with large HorrorClix Zombies and Heroic 28mm minis, but would still be a mountain of a man on the table.

Mega Minis Woodland Creatures

Ed, from THW sent me some minis to paint up for him...as he is wont to do at times.  This time around some of the figs in the batch he wanted painted were some Woodland Creatures from Mega Minis.  There were a Beaver, a Mountain Lion, a Badger, a Stag, and a Bear. 

These figs are your typical mega Mini figs.  They area  great compromise between quality and price.  There are gems through out the mega Minis lines.  In this one, it is the Stag, IMO.  That is a nice figure as far as I am concerned.

2012 Fifty Cent Miniature Challenge, Pt 2

I forgot to post this earlier, I finally sold the first item in my 2012 FCM Challenge.  If you remember, it was the Zombie Reindeer.

It sold as part of a larger group of minis and ended up going for $5.07, once paypal fees, shipping, and price per fig are averaged.  Once, the original purchase price is figured in the profit off the sale is $4.57.

Off to a slow start.  There is a local convention that is coming up, and I am eyeing some cheap toys to do some conversion on.  Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks I'll be able to do some wheeling and dealing to increase the amount in the profit column.

TEOTWAWKI - Ruined Storage Tank Facility

Here's another finished terrain set, with the center piece being a rusty storage tank.  The walls surrounding the tank create a trench like setting, affording figures covered movement and protection.  I am going to make some outer wall pieces, in order to make  this a more complete defensive position.

 

More Repurposed Clickys (Modern Gunmen)

So much for catchy post titles, huh?  The title really says it all.  These are a couple more Heroclix minis I re-purposed.  I bought my last big batch of clickys from Troll and Toad with the intent of repainting them, selling them, and using the profits on my Post Apoc project.  As of right now, though, I think these two are going to stay in my collection.  I really like these two  figs.

The first one is the Heroclix "Manchester Black" figure.  He had what looked like a banana in his hand, that just wouldn't do.  I armed him with a Mac10, scrounged from a mini in the "pile O' lead".  The stance, and the way the gun is held give the figure a sense of attitude.  He looks like a proper gun toting Hooligan.  I'm not even going to rename the figure, because the name "Manchester Black" is so cool.

The second figure is one of the Heroclix Punisher incarnations.   I love the stance on this fig, and the detail is towards the top end, for clicky figures.  All I did was re-base  and re-paint it.  He will eventually, at some point, hopefully, maybe find his way onto the table as a Hi-Tech gunman, or assassin.

The Professor and Number 19

I present for your critique, the Professor and  Number 19.  The Professor is a genius at cybernetics, and has been refining the technology.  Number 19 is the culmination of all his work to date.  Human from the neck up, and even then; barely, Number 19 is the most extensive body conversion the Professor has done.  The Professor is sort of a Frankenstein figure, as he stand, fist clenched in triumph, as his creation walks.

These minis are re-purposed Heroclix figs; I've been on kind of a spate of repainting lately, so look for more in the coming weeks.  The Professor is the Bruce Banner figure and Number 19 is the Pretty Boy figure.  The detail on both of them is really good and they painted up very well.  The bases are slotta base that I applied my diamond tread technique to.  I think I am going to repost the tutorial I did  on how to make it.

In the future, the only thing I would do different would be to strip the factory paint job off, in order to get crisper detail.  The loss, due to paint build up, isn't that bad on these two.  On a couple of others in the batch I bought, the loss is really bad.  To the point, that I need to go back and strip the primer I applied, as well as the factory job, in order to try and salvage them.

Goblin Factory Goblins

Here's a rehashed posting of some minis I did several years ago.  If you root around the web, you'll find them already posted over on The Guild.  These are some of the best goblin minis around, IMO.  I like them more than the GW types.  They are proportioned correctly for 25mm; probably midway between a halfling and a human in size.  If one really wanted to, they could probably be used as 20mm Orcs, as well.

I did these on commision, so they are not part of my collection.  I really like this line and need to get some for myself. The wolf riders are especially good.  My painting skills have improved since I did them, as well as my photography skills, and I'd like to see what I could do with them now.

Mayan Vampire Priest and Brother Ernesto

A Mayan Vampire Priest, along with two Vampire Maidens have just completed a sacrifice to their dark and twisted gods.  He holds a still beating heart above his head, triumphantly.

Having heard of these dark rituals and evil creatures, the Vatican dispatched one of its most unlikely monster hunters; Brother Ernesto.

These are figure from Pontoonier Miniatures, sold at Newline Designs.  I painted up a bunch of these for Two Hour Wargames to use for an upcoming rule set.  Even though I posted them on a couple of forums, I'll have to get photos posted here.

Hmmm, I need to hit the Juan Deogo with some dull coat, as I missed the folds in his frock.

TEOTWAWKI - More Blasted Ruins Painted

Here are three more ruined building pieces, made from the Gamecraft 6 story foam board building.  This line of pre-cut buildings is a great base to use for your ruins.  The uniformity of the doors and windows are a good contrast to the broken edges of the ruins.

Corner piece with bricked up windows.  The rusted cellar doors are carved in to the base. 

Large three story ruin.  The bank signage letters are cut from a cereal box to give them a bit of relief.

The last piece is a simple corner piece, with the details and floor slab made from pink foam.

Dire Wolf

Collectible miniatures are a great source of inexpensive figures.  I like rebasing/repainting them for reuse on the table. Here's a great example.  It's a dire wolf from Horrorclix.  I rebased it on a 30mm round and gave it a new paint job.

I used DAS modeling clay to make the bricked up windows on this piece.

2012 Fifty Cent Miniature Challenge

Every year I challenge myself to do something hobby related.  You know, just to keep myself motivated and focused on something.  It varies from year to year.  Well, several years ago I did what I called the "Fifty Cent Miniature Challenge"  That is I take a miniature I acquired for fifty cents and see what I can parlay it into over the course of  year. Some times it was painting and selling a fig, other times it was horse trading for something, and still at other times reselling items I'de acquired.

Two years ago I did this with the figure you see to the right.  By Dec. 31st, I had managed to turn that fifty cent investment into a 36' flat screen TV; purchased with cash raised throughout the challenge, along with about $400 worth of gaming stuff.  That included miniatures, terrain, supplies, and what not.

I really enjoyed doing it and had a lot of neat gaming stuff pass through my hands in the process.  In the same spirit, I am announcing the start of my

"2012 Fifty Cent Miniature Challenge".

I've rummaged through my collection and found what I think is going to be a smashing figure to start with.  It's a great sculpt, and fits into a niche that even with today's economy seems to be doing well.  So, without further adieu, I unveil the first mini in the 2012 FCM Challenge:

This is a re-purposed Horrorclix mini that I used for my Christmas greeting over at Welcome To Lazarus.  I have a small case that will go with it, turning it into a nice little display figure, which is still gamable, if desired.

PA River Barge

In a world gone apocalyptic, shelter and safety will be at a premium.  Whether its defending against radioactive raiders, or fending off hordes of the walking dead, water-craft are some of the safest place to be.  Surrounded by water and mobile, these floating fortresses will be bastions of safety in a hostile world.

Here's my entry into the informal "2011 Boat Building Challenge" over on the Post Apoc Wargames forum:

In scale feet, the barge would be approx 65 ft long by 37.3 ft wide

Wood planking covers the hold, giving the occupants shelter and storage

A cabin, made from scraps of wood and metal affords topside shelter

Sandbags provide protection against marauders

A WIP thread can be found here, detailing how it was made and showing pre-paint photos.  The sandbags are the only new edition since that thread and are from Acheson Creations.  I plan on carrying this project over into 2012 by adding the following modular pieces; although I am not sure if it will stay on the Workbench list.

Another thing that occurred to me to do is to create a concrete levy in order to create a river bank/dock feature for my developing PA table.

A Ranger and a Rogue

I still like a lot of the old mini sculpts from the 80s and 90s.  Some of the old Ral Partha and Grenadier figs have held up well against the test of time.  A friend of mine gave me a big box of unpainted metal and I dig through it from time to time looking for figs to paint as a change of pace and to practice technique on.


Here are a couple of figs I did last weekend.  The same friend needed a fig for and RPG character he has, so I whipped one out for him, as well as a second one.

Ral Partha Ranger

He  had a very bad, teenage paint job from the 90's so I resurrected him. Originally, his shield was all white and had a what looked like a tree on it, so I recreated it as well.

Ral Parth Rogue

This is the fig for the RPG character.  Not sure if it'll fit the bill.  If it doesn't his group has a mountain of unpainted metal I can dig through to find the right one.
